I have always been very intrigued by nature and its mysteries; especially ecosystems science and the intricate relationships and the interconnectedness of life and non-life on Earth. However, it was only as I was working in the Canadian Arctic for two summers as a research ecologist when I witnessed the effects of Climate Change first hand. I of course knew of Climate Change and its drivers, and in fact our research crew, Team Shrub, was studying its effects on Arctic biota. Nevertheless, only as I saw the extreme thawing of the permafrost, the retreating sea ice and the livelihoods of the local peoples affected, I woke up to the future that we are working towards now...
The decisive blow to my worldview was delivered by a big flood that we were stuck in on Herschel Island in June 2016. As we toiled with rescue efforts of people and property, and later with the repairs, I could viscerally relate to the different effects of Climate Change around the world and the struggles of particularly the most vulnerable. I then decided to devote my life to finding solutions towards a more equitable and resilient society in the face of the climate crisis.

Since, I have worked with Climate Change communication, education and innovation - especially with Sustainable Food Systems & Food Waste - both with start-ups and social organisations. There are several ways we can fight the climate crisis. It might all be too little too late, but I see no other choice than a solutions oriented outlook for the future, and the questioning of the structures that be. We can disrupt big business with innovation. We can change policies though advocacy. We can create more resilient communities with compassion and a just distribution of funds.
